Arsenal are on the lookout for a new center-forward, and have been actively exploring options after the club decided not to engage in any transfer business in January due to the Financial Fair Play restrictions and availability of desired targets.

In their search for a new striker, different names have been linked to the club with the likes of Ivan Toney, Victor Osimhen, Viktor Gyokeres and Joshua Zirkzee.

But according to a recent report from Italian outlet Calciomercato, the Gunners have emerged as a strong contender in the pursuit of Bologna striker Joshua Zirkzee.

The 22-year-old Dutch striker has been a standout performer in Serie A this season, drawing attention from clubs across Italy, Germany, and England. AC Milan have been persistently interested in Zirkzee, making him their primary target ahead of the summer. However, an international auction for the former Bayern Munich player seems plausible, and English clubs, particularly Arsenal, have expressed significant interest.

According to reports by Daniele Longo, Zirkzee remains a top priority for Milan, but an auction scenario could alter the landscape of his potential destination.

Longo said, “Zirkzee has been Milan’s main objective for months to strengthen the attack for next season, but he is not the only profile on which the management is reflecting.

“Also because Bayern Munich seems intent on maintaining control over the transfer market, aware that an international auction could open for Joshua with several Premier League clubs interested. Arsenal is certainly a very hot option for the center forward who is doing so well with the Bologna shirt.”

While Arsenal appears to be leading the race for Zirkzee, Milan are actively considering alternatives, with RB Leipzig’s Benjamin Sesko emerging as a viable option.

Having enjoyed a successful second year with Bologna, Zirkzee has scored 11 goals and six assists. His skill set, including impressive dribbling, hold-up play, and creativity, has caught the eye of many, making him a potential asset for Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta.
