BNamericas – Brazil, Netherlands to strengthen port secto…

News

Brazilian and Dutch authorities are working to strengthen ties in the port sector, including some energy-related areas.

A letter of intent (LOI) is expected to be signed in March calling for an expansion of bilateral cooperation in the fields of port development and logistics, maritime transportation, port-related renewable energy projects, offshore wind and shipbuilding, a source familiar with the matter told BNamericas.

Besides the joint participation in events, the cooperation foresees actions to facilitate access to the Brazilian and Dutch markets, business promotion and knowledge exchange, according to the source, who spoke on condition of anonymity.

The Dutch signatories of the LOI will be the ministry of infrastructure and water management, and the foreign trade and development cooperation ministry.

On the Brazilian side, it will be the ministries of ports and airports (MPOR) and transportation (MT), the regulatory agencies for waterway transport (Antaq) and land transport (ANTT), and the national transportation infrastructure department (DNIT), among others.

The Port of Rotterdam, which is among the largest in the world, has partnerships with the Brazilian ports of Pecém in Ceará state and Rio Grande in Rio Grande do Sul, involving green hydrogen and/or offshore wind.
